Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy is the full name of YSR who has remained in the hearts of the Telugu people forever.Born on July 8,1949 in Jammalamadugu,YSR District.Parents Jayamma and Raja Reddy.He went to school in Bellary and later to Loyola College in Vijayawada.He received his degree in medical education from Gulbarga University in 1972.Later he graduated as a House Surgeon from Sri Venkateswara Medical College, Tirupati.After completing his medical education he worked as a medical officer in Jammalamadugu for some time.Later he worked in a hospital built under the name of his father Rajareddy.YSR married vijayamma on 9 February 1972.The couple has two children.Jagan Mohan Reddy(son),Sharmila(daughter).
Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy(8 July 1949-2 September 2009),popularly known as YSR,was the 14th Chief minister of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh,serving from 2004 to 2009.

From the Student Stage…
YSR has been interested in politics since the student stage.He served as President of the Student Union while pursuing his medical education at the MR Medical College in Gulbarga.Later he was elected President of the House Surgeons Association at SV Medical College,Tirupati.

At the same time YSR family continued service activities such as building a college and setting up a hospital.He was also appointed as the Youth secretary of Andhra Pradesh in 1975 as YSR was also active in politics.Later he contested as an MLA in the 1978 elections.Thus began a crucial stage in his political career.

An undefeated Leader
In the 1978 elections,YS Rajasekhara Reddy contested for the first time as an MLA from Pulivendula Constituency in Kadapa district and won.Later he won the 1983 and 1985 elections as an MLA and scored a hat-trick.Then he contested from Kadapa Lok Sabha Constituency in 1989 and won.He also won the 1991,96,98 elections as an MP.

He ran for parliament four times in a row and won a rare victory.Then he focused on the Assembly elections and contested in 1999 as an MLA.Later he won the 2004 and 2009 elections as an MLA from the same constituency.He won every election he contested undefeated and achieved a rare feat.

Padayatra(walkathon):A key turning point
Anyone who wants to grow as a political leader should have an understanding of public issues.Only leaders who come from the people know about their hardships.YSR is a leader who comes from the people.He always tried to be with the people in his political life.Especially as the Leader of the opposition during 2003-04 who tried to understand the problems of the people.As part of this,a statewide trek was undertaken.

Hiked in the summer of 2003 and covered nearly 1,467 kilometres.YSR met with people everywhere during this trip and learned about their plight.People from all walks of life came together to witness their troubles and were stunned.He had a full understanding of farmer issues in particular.By the end of the tour he had a full understanding of the problems and solutions of the people.YSR has received support from people and fans everywhere during this trip.The people also understood his sincerity gave him a solid victory in the subsequent elections.

Elected as Chief Minister
YSR has held several positions in his political career.In 1980,he was the Minister of state for Rural Development and in 1982, Minister of Excise and Education.Served as PCC President from 1983-85.He returned to the PCC in 1998.The TDP was in power in joint Andhra Pradesh in 1999.During this time YSR was elected leader of opposition party in the Legislative Assembly.

Later he worked tirelessly to bring the Congress party to power in the 2004 elections.Tge Congress won an unexpected victory in this election.With this,the MLAs elected YS Rajasekhara Reddy as the Chief Minister who led the party towards victory.Thus he had the opportunity to serve the Telugu People more.Five years later,in 2009,the YSR-led Congress won.He returned to the CM’s pedestal for the second time.
